Pepper is apparently the new weapon of choice on UC campuses. Tight on the heels of the pepper spray incident at UC-Davis, campus cops last week shot peaceful protesters at UC-Riverside with pepper ball projectiles. The students were protesting increased tuition costs at a meeting of the UC Regents taking place on the Los Angeles-area campus.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has a challenger in her own district, Republican John Dennis – grassroots organizer for GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul. Dennis will attempt to unseat the powerful San Francisco Democrat using the organizational base of Paul's movement.

The former governor of Massachusetts, Michael Dukakis, came to San Diego last weekend with his remarkable wife, Kitty. They didn’t come for the weather, which is what most San Diegans think when someone comes to visit. (Oh, it rained Saturday.)

Gov. Brown strongly endorsed and supported the Bay Delta Conservation Plan in his State of the State address. He says it will ensure water for 25 million Californians and agriculture, as well as protecting the Delta ecosystem and its abundant fish and wildlife. These often are contradictory goals. If water stays in the Delta, then it doesn't get sent to farmers or to that thirsty 800 lb.
