According to an August 15 Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism study, President Barack Obama leads Republican candidate Mitt Romney in web and social media activity. While this comes at no shock to those of us tuned into their social media activity, the findings show that neither candidate engages with voters via social media, and while Obama is much more active on Twitter, his levels of engagement are low.

UPDATE: The Associated Press is now reporting Rep. Cliff Stearns has conceded to Ted Yoho in Florida's 3rd congressional district.

A surprise upset in Florida's primary election has Republican Congressman Cliff Stearns trailing political unknown Ted Yoho by 829 votes, but refusing to concede the race.

63,690 votes were tallied in total.

Following a tax vote to support the elimination of a corporate tax break, California Republican Assemblyman Brian Nestande has stepped down from his position as Republican caucus chairman in a move largely interpreted to be a rebuff of his party's staunch opposition to taxes.

On Monday, President Obama visited farmers in Iowa affected by this summer’s severe drought. In a speech he talked about how Congress has, so far, failed to provide emergency relief to farmers or pass a new farm bill.
