Recently 26-year-old US Marine veteran and Virginia resident Brandon Raub, who served his country in Iraq and Afghanistan, was arrested by local authorities working in concert with federal agents for what they deemed were threatening posts on Facebook.

In addition to candidates, the Internet played a larger role in the election and how voters participated. Millions of more people had Internet access during the 2008 election than they had in 2004. As the candidates and parties wrestled with how to use the new tool most effectively, voters benefitted from more information.

2012 Medicare Reform Debate

Despite lack of engagement with the issue, young voters need to be at the center of the Medicare reform debate. Seniors are not the only group who need to think about their generation’s health and financial well-being. With campaign focus on the future of Medicare, results in November are essential to young voters.

Yesterday, Facebook teamed up with CNN to launch their social voting app, "I'm Voting", urging voters to commit their vote on the social media website. Because of the social aspect of Facebook, the application will allow users to share their vote with their friends on the network, greatly expanding its reach. The app features three political leanings, Democrat, Republican, and Independent, asking users to select their political affiliation.

The Republican platform committee pushed a number of anti-illegal immigration platform planks on Tuesday. On top of advocating a completed border fence along the U.S.-Mexico border and requiring employers to use a national E-Verify system when hiring new employees, the committee took a  stance against in-state tuition for illegal immigrants.
