Cranky Yankee wonders just how many government give-aways can you fit on the head of a pin?  And who's regulating pinhead crowding?  You don't suppose there's a federal basic research program for that, now do you?

In a recent publication released by National USC Annenberg and LA Times, their poll shows the relationship between politics and the press.

The poll that surveyed 1,009 registered voters on the subject shows that Obama has a slight lead over Romney going into the national conventions in terms of favorability. But the reason why we’re interested?

The poll concludes that:

Nothing can get the American people more riled up than gun control and the Second Amendment.  You are either for or against the right to bear arms.  The US Supreme Court has ruled countless times that the individual has the right to own a gun or several guns... and this does now include semi-automatic weapons since Congress let the ban on them expire.  The National Rifle Association (NRA) has done an outstanding job in brainwashing the American populace that any kind of gun control is a threat to their Second Amendment rights.  The issue as of late has dropped out of politics.

Facing threats from Hurricane Isaac, there has been much speculation over whether or not the Republican National Convention, set to start early next week, will be able to take place due to the weather conditions in Tampa, Florida.

When asked about the possibile impacts of the hurricane, RNC communications director Sean Spicer said on CNN, "There's n such thing as canceling." Spicer continued,

Considering the opportunity to move from paper or modified electronic voting to full Internet ballots inevitably sparks a debate surrounding the likelihood of fraud and security of ballots. Prior to diving into the technical means for preventing voter fraud, we will investigate how great of a threat it posits in today’s offline elections.
