There is little-to-no controversy that eating a nutritious diet is healthy.

We have a healthcare crisis in this country that is getting worse—not better. So, why does the federal government give subsidies through the farm bill to corporations and farmers to grow food that is not the most nutrient dense? Isn’t the point to keep our populace healthy?

Making matters worse, why is food that is probably not healthy being subsidized?

As of late the Obama administration has come under increasing pressure from journalists to justify its handling of national security leaks.  Alongside these concerns is a broader debate on whether or not press leaks endanger national security, and if so, how can it be proven?

To true believers, both communism and capitalism are immune to historical critique. Tell a group of devout Marxists that communism has failed wherever it has been tried, and they will respond that it has never been tried. The “so-called communist societies” of the Soviet Union and the People’s Republic of China, they will say, were nothing like the pure Worker’s Utopias that Marx imagined.

A week after the announcement of the first budget surplus in years, the Senate Appropriation Committee announced it will hold off on a number of tax initiatives that would have impacted many constituents across the state.

John Miller has spent his life around firearms.

"I grew up with firearms of all kinds, taught to respect and how to use and care for a gun as well as been shooting since I was very young," he said.

Today, Miller passes that expertise along to others, working as a martial arts teacher in Roanoke and Vinton, Va. So, when he hears the way politicians, the media, and lobbyist groups talk about gun ownership, Miller says it's "fear-mongering" and "propaganda."

The week of May 13th, the Associated Press revealed a report that the Justice Department had obtained phone conversations of various reporters and editors of their news service.
