San Diego, California came out on top in the updated Tolerance Index, scoring higher than other diverse metros like Napa, CA, Ithaca, NY, Miami, FL, and Las Vegas, NV.

The key variables included the share of immigrants or foreign-born residents, the Gay Index (the concentration of gays and lesbians), and the Integration Index, which tracks the level of segregation between ethnic and racial groups.

Presumed Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is believed to have made his VP decision and may disclose it as soon as this week, the New York Times reports.

This week is expected to give way to a lengthy discussion on the impending defense budget cuts via sequestration, as part of the federal budget deficit negotiations of 2011. The threat of automatic cuts will be considered closely this week in a number of events in Washington D.C.

The Sequestration Transparency Act of 2012 and the 2013 defense appropriations bill will both reach the floor of the House later this week.
