On May 25, House Bill 1869, a bill that would restrict the subrogation rights of insurance companies, was signed into law by Governor Rick Perry. A press release by the bill's author, Representative Four Price, gave this reason for the subrogation bill in a press release:

Memorial Day is America's second favorite day for grilling after the 4th of July. But, why we celebrate Memorial Day is much more than just a day for BBQ and sales.

Memorial Day was established in 1868 to honor those who died during the Civil War. It was originally called Decoration Day because people decorated soldiers graves.The holiday has since been extended to honor all Americans who died in military service.

In 1968, Memorial Day became a national holiday and its date was changed from May 30 to the last Monday of May to create a three-day weekend.

As the latest reports about military suicides are released, 2013 is showing that there has been no abatement in the trajectory.

One new report chronicling the April suicides indicated that there were at least eleven potential suicides among active-service members in the Army alone.

Student loan debt has totalled $1.1 trillion nationwide and many college graduates struggle to pay these loans back. The federal government is rushing to find a solution to the interest rate it sets for student loans which is currently set to double from 3.4 to 6.8 percent in July if nothing is done.
