When Sir Thomas Malory compiled all of the tales of King Arthur and his knights into the Le Morte d'Arthur, it was an epic tale of the destruction of Camelot, and the downfall of many of the political figures of the day.

Likewise today, we see the Bush dynasty beginning to crumble. What was once seen as an inevitability is now seen as a long-shot, even by party insiders.

The last 15 years since 9/11 has set into American minds a very narrow view of what terrorism means. A fitting standard definition is:

[T]he use of violent acts to frighten the people in an area as a way of trying to achieve a political goal.  -- Merriam-Webster

This definition both fits our current battles with Islamic extremism, yet it also encompasses most historical acts of terrorism.

Christmas time, that wonderful time of year when we can pause and reflect on the first Christmas in America, with the Pilgrims exchanging gifts with the Indians in snowy New England.

After all, the Pilgrims came to America to avoid religious persecution, right?

Unfortunately, this view of American history, as well as the modern belief in a so-called 'War on Christmas,' are totally in err.
