On July 14, congressional lawmakers introduced the Automatic Voter Registration Act of 2016, which would ensure that whenever a citizen interacts with the government, they are automatically registered to vote unless they choose to decline. The bill is being led by Representative Robert Brady (D-PA).

Last week, Donald Trump announced Indiana Governor Mike Pence as his running mate. Prior to his service as governor, Pence represented the Hoosier State in the House of Representatives from 2001 to 2013. Pence has accumulated a foreign policy record that may influence how he might advise Trump as vice president.

The #NeverTrump movement is dead. Squashed, as it were, by a new party rule.

A 77-21 vote in the RNC Rules committee Thursday effectively banned “conscience voting” for delegates to the Convention, ending the movement among delegates to vote for someone, anyone, other than Donald Trump.

Few political battles have waged as intensely as the campaign to raise the minimum wage. Proponents insist raising the wage is critical to lifting working families from poverty while opponents insist that an increase could devastate small businesses. Yet one can sometimes feel detached by the apparent impossibility of having real impact on the debate and moving the issue forward. But it turns out that normal people can in fact have a effect real change. The key is to go local.

“Americans vote for their president.”

Well, yes and no. America’s presidential election system relies on the Electoral College, a group of men and women chosen by state parties to vote in their favor. When Americans go to the polls, they choose their candidate of choice, and trust that the party electors will vote as the citizens have chosen.
