Confirmation hearings continued Wednesday, January 11, for President-elect Donald Trump's cabinet picks. On deck Wednesday was arguably Trump's most controversial pick, ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson. The media's focus has been on Tillerson's ties to Russia after an election in which U.S. intelligence agencies say Vladimir Putin tried to influence the results.

This week, Congress began hearings for President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees. Some prospective Trump appointees have drawn criticism due to either the individual’s potential business-related conflicts of interest or personal history.

On January 5, the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. heard oral argument in the case, Level the Playing Field, et. al. v. FEC. Level the Playing Field filed a lawsuit challenging the nonprofit status of the Commission on Presidential Debates on the basis that it is not nonpartisan nor does it use "objective criteria" to determine entry into presidential debates.

The Marijuana Policy Project (MPP), the nation's largest marijuana policy organization, released a statement Tuesday, January 10, regarding U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions' remarks on prohibition enforcement during his confirmation hearing before the Senate. Sessions is President-elect Donald Trump's pick for U.S. attorney general, the lead law enforcement official in the Executive Branch.

Confirmation hearings for President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet picks began Tuesday, January 10. The two hearings held were for U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), nominated for U.S. attorney general, and retired Marine General John Kelly, Trump's pick to head Homeland Security (DHS).

The DHS secretary employs 216,000 people to patrol borders, enforce immigration laws, and respond to disasters and emergencies. DHS promotes preparedness and emergency prevention among citizens as well.

If confirmed, Sessions would manage a budget of approximately $25 billion. The Department of Justice is comprised of 40 organizations. It includes the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Marshals, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
