There is big news for the Libertarian Party: It can add one more state where it has official party status and ballot access for the 2018 midterms.

Ballot Access News reported Monday that the LP's petition for party status was validated by the Arkansas secretary of state on July 7. This means the Libertarian Party has ballot access in 39 states, plus the District of Columbia for some or all races in the midterm elections.

The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a federal lawsuit over the lack of transparency by President Trump’s election commission.

The lawsuit charges the commission with failing to comply with the Federal Advisory Committee Act, which is designed to ensure public accountability of all advisory committees.

A story in the Washington Post says the federal investigation into a land deal led by Jane Sanders, the wife and political adviser of Sen. Bernie Sanders, has accelerated.

Prosecutors have reportedly hauled off with more than a dozen boxes of records from the Vermont college she once ran and calling a state official to testify before a grand jury.

The investigation centers on the 2010 land purchase that relocated Burlington College to a new campus on more than 32 acres along Lake Champlain.

She also is looking at the House districts she won in last year’s presidential contest against Donald Trump as part of an autopsy of her failed campaign, according to two sources who have spoken to the former secretary of State.

In a report from the New York Times, Donald Trump's son met with a Kremlin-linked Russian lawyer during the 2016 campaign.

Citing advisers briefed on the meeting, the Times reported that Donald Trump Jr. attended the meeting in June 2016 after being promised "damaging information" about his father's Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

There is big news in the James Comey investigation.

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. -- California is at the fore of the "resist Trump" movement in the United States, and there is one elected official in particular that is using his station to be the voice of this resistance: California Secretary of State Alex Padilla.

Padilla, who is California's chief elections official, released a statement Sunday condemning the president over a recent tweet about partnering with Russia on cybersecurity.

US Senator Pat Toomey (R-Penn.) says the reason Republicans have not been able to move forward on health care yet is because no one expected Donald Trump to win -- not him nor his Republican colleagues. So, 9 months later, Republican lawmakers still struggle with reaching consensus.

"I didn't expect Donald Trump to win. I think most of my colleagues didn't. So, we didn't expect to be in this situation, and given how difficult it is to get to a consensus, it was hard to force that until there was a need to," says Toomey.

The back and forth between President Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton’s former campaign manager John Podesta continues.

The battle rages over the hacked DNC server, and questions as to why it still hasn’t been turned over to the DHS and FBI for review, if in fact a crime was committed as Podesta and the intelligence community maintains.

The private company CrowdStrike, hired by the Democratic Party, remains the only group to have had access to the server.
