The Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville has replaced its history textbooks with the iPad for use in the classroom.  Introduced as a pilot project among AP students last week, competition between the iPad and a traditional heavy and expensive textbook is formally underway. 

Most of us will never forget the feeling of freedom that came with our right to drive.  It was almost a magical release from the bounds of childhood.   More than 50 years after I gained that right, it is being threatened – not by government decree, but by the potential ravages of aging.

The race has been heating up between California Republican gubernatorial candidates Meg Whitman and Steve Poizner. Whitman has been excitedly racking up endorsements, and quickly informing her supporters of them. 

California’s legislature seems to be lagging behind on illegal immigration enforcement, putting politics above public safety. The notion that California is in the stone age in immigration matters is underscored by the recent series of events in Arizona, the Golden State's next door neighbor that faces many of the same problems.
