For a law that is supposed to evoke feelings of safety, Senate Bill 510 – The Food Safety Modernization Act – sure is instilling a lot of fear into the minds of many. Why?

Twelve companies have received a total of $71.5 million in sales and use tax exemptions for clean energy projects in California. These are the first tax breaks from SB 71, which passed in March.

The very form and structure of two-party politics ensures the marginalization and exclusion of Independents from the nation’s mainstream political discourse, allowing Republicans and Democrats to engage in their well-rehearsed charades. Hypocrisy is just one of the names for the game.  

There’s something seriously wrong with our banking system, and we’re failing to fix it on a federal level.  But, the solution is right in front of our noses: regulate banking on a state-by-state basis, just as we regulate utilities.
