One freshman assemblyman in California who has emerged in recent months as a leading immigration hawk is forcing the state's legislators to confront a chronic problem.

The cornerstone of any local food economy is the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. These organizations connect consumers directly to farmers. They allow the consumer to purchase shares in a farm's produce and provide the farmer with the security of knowing they have a stable, local market.

In the wake of cratering pension fund returns and the filing of lawsuits against two former top employees, CalPERS, the giant California pension fund, commissioned a report by D.C. law firm Steptoe and Johnson.

Independent and Latino voters are among the fastest growing segments of California’s electorate.  A new poll provides a window into the Independent Latino vote and reveals that Independents now outnumber Republicans among the Latino voting class. 

Last year, California voters approved Proposition 14, a ballot initiative that proposed sweeping changes to the state's primary election system. Supporters argued that the new system would result in "less extreme" candidates than those nominated in the traditional partisan primary system.

Vitriolic rhetoric is nothing new to the illegal immigration conversation, but every now and then there's an event that takes place in the public square that reminds moderate sides of the issue to guard their message from proceeding down the path of divisive dialogue.
